Homework & Expectations

At St. Raphael we believe that home study is an essential part of a good school program. Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday and, at the discretion of the teacher, occasionally on Friday. Reading with your child on a daily basis is important for his/her academic success. Reading together is also fun!

What is the purpose of homework? It is assigned:

• to reinforce skills taught in the classroom

• to encourage growth of self-responsibility

• to provide parents an opportunity to participate in the child’s scholastic growth

• to develop awareness that studying (reviewing for a test or reading an assignment) is  as valid an assignment as written homework

Reading Homework

1st Grade =  10–20 minutes a night (parents reading to and with children)

3rd Grade =  20 minutes a night (read aloud to parents)
